Liveblog Doctor Who S4E02 The Fires Of Pompeii by James Moran
I am liveblogging each episode of Doctor Who as I watch it. I am publishing a raw stream of consciousness list of things I am considering and wondering about as I watch. In the interest of not spoiling anything for anyone I am putting all of it behind the jump.
This episode is the second episode of Season Four (or Thirty depending who you ask), called The Fires Of Pompeii. From the site: Psychic powers and stone beasts run riot in old Pompeii, but can Donna dare the Doctor to change established history?
* Ancient Rome! To them this is brand new Rome. “It’s so Roman!” hee hee!
* OK I gotta know, is Catherine Tate pregnant or is it just unfortunate wardrobing?
* Are we in Epcot? LOL!
* No speaka Celtic! Hee!
* It’s like Soho but bigger. (:
* Odd stalker woman…
* Not Rome? It’s Pompeii you say? Oh it’s on now!
* Still loving the intro.
* I’m really not liking little miss “you can’t see the high priestess so just tell me”. That’s no good.
* “You’re kiddin.” Nice! “Don’t get clever in Latin!” hee!
* This is a very vast looking set. And all the shaking, nice! Cute hungover sullen teen. I wonder who kept him out late? (:
* A face of stone? hmm. Why would it hurt?
* I like that Donna’s first instinct is saving everyone.
* Tardis Timelord YEAH!
* OK the weirdy red nun/sisterhood is weird and why does the highest one lie?
* I am Spartacus. And so am I. heehee!
* Lucius Petrus Dexterous? Isn’t Petrus stone and Dexterous arm?
* Such wisdom? He’s a doofus!
* Nice marble tiley thing, Lucius.
* Only the menfolk have the capacity for true perception? Oh I like Donna.
* Out soothsayed? heh. Oh this is awesome, they both know all kinds of awesome things about him. WOW!
* She is returning. hmmmMMMMMMmmmm…
* What’s on Donna’s back? A burden? Does she have a mark of some sort? Is it something to do with the “she” who’s returning? Is that Rose? Since we’ve seen her at the end of the first episode…
* A lord of time? horry clap!
* Her arm is stone!? that’s bad mmkay?
* Earthquake made the seers in Pompeii all make sense? hmmmm.
* I love a teen who is easily bought off. Awesome! How many times has he said “Don’t tell my dad”? (:
* He’s building the future? How? For what? What “gods” told him to?
* Weird remote control listening. Bizarre and I can’t get behind it. I want to but just….no.
* Energy converter, eh? interesting….
* What’s coming for them?
* Oh THAT’s what’s coming for them. Damn!
* Donna just got straight up nabbed? Oh come on!
* Go Quintas! Good and quick thinking! And thank you Doctor for pointing it out!
* Oh you go Donna!
* Oh all the overdoing of this woman is aggravating.
* I like that the Doctor stood up for the original Sybil, and she’s awesome.
* Oh I like the Doctor when he’s had enough. Pyrovore? Pyrophile?
* I bloody love you! Oh she’s better and better. I like this back and forth more than the sighing “oh doctor” we got before.
* Someone must make the most terrible choice? I wonder which choice she means?
* Cult of Vulcan, you say?
* Heart of Vesuvius? That looks interesting…
* Again with the lost! Misplaced? Poker game? Destroyed? Ruined?
* “Never mind us”. Wow! She’s come a long way.
* Poor Doctor. He wouldn’t have thought twice about that before. I think Martha and Donna were good for him.
* OMG Vesuvius looks cool! Tragic, but cool!
* What will happen to those ladies now that they might not have “gods” anymore to answer to? Will they stop being stone?
* YAY! Doctor and Donna made it out!
* OK head red nun is interesting now. But nobody else minds that they were lied to?
* Poor Donna trying to help someone and can’t.
* That poor family! At least they are together.
* Stop being so terrible Doctor! Look at her!
* Oh Doctor I knew you had it in you!
* You were right. Sometimes I need someone. Welcome Aboard. Nice! I’m glad she’s “official” now.
* Oh an afterward! Yay!
* Nice ending. Who finds those household gods in a bajillion years? And what do they think about it?
I enjoyed this episode a lot. It helped fill in a bit of the relationship between them, she’s actually a companion, and I think there was a bit of foreshadowing about what’s coming down the pike. I am loving every minute of this so it makes me sad that there will be SUCH a big break between this season and the next. Oh well. Next episode!

dear lord I am glad I read this. The amount of heavy heavy foreshadowing in this episode is phenomenal! I didn’t even realize how well thought out it was until just now. I can’t wait to go back and rewatch it!!!
