The Bananaverse

My computer (Enid) got a new hard drive over the weekend. Well, mostly. We actually put it in on like Thursday or Friday, and then spent most of the weekend tweaking and setting her up just so. It’s weird how everyone has a system for their computers. LipLash, for example, puts the whole freakin world in the apple menu. I jumped ship to popup folders the instant I was able (OS8) and I stash aliases to things there. It makes me happy. Since you can’t add junk to the apple menu in X, I’m not sure what LipLash will do about his current system. heh. anyway. I like seeing how other people do things, it’s sort of a peek into their heads to see how they are wired. It’s like peeking into a digital bathroom cabinet to see how it’s all set up.

So I spent a lot of time with Enid and tweaking everything way the hell away from the default stuff. I didn’t realize how far away I was from ‘default’ until I had to start from scratch. It’s hard to work this all out the way I want it to be since I did it incrementally over the course of like a year. It will be awhile before she’s back to her old self.

This new drive is huge, and hopefully it will eliminate the need for a server machine which is loud and obnoxious and doesn’t quite work how I want it to (which is ‘well’) and hard to maintain. Now if I could just get mine working properly it would be fabulous. Anyone well versed in Samba Server wanna help me out? (:

urgh. lots of stuff happening. I’ll try to get on the rest of it later.
